Prevent Grain Growth in Noble Metal Platinum-Rhodium Thermocouples

Grain growth in noble metal Platinum-Rhodium thermocouples can be a common issue, but Conax Semiconductor has come up with a unique solution for our customers.

Platinum-Rhodium noble metal thermocouples must be built with care given the need for proper handling of the wires. Improper handling may lead to initial calibration shift and may also lead to an acceleration of grain growth beyond normal conditions. Grain growth causes grain boundaries to be formed. These grain boundaries are mechanically weaker than the wire cross section within the grain. As the wire in the profile thermocouple is mechanically and thermally stressed during heating and cooling cycles, the wire is increasingly likely to fail at one of these grain boundaries.

Our experts at Conax Semiconductor have the knowlege and experience to help you minimize the effect of grain growth in Type R thermocouples. >> Find out how
